What do you need to know?
There is good news to share with NC employers. The NC General Assembly and Governor Cooper have signed Senate Bill 114, which maintains the 2020 UI experienced base rate of 1.9% instead of raising it for 2021 as previously planned.
Many of our Catapult members received NC Division of Employment Security notices in late 2020 informing them that their unemployment insurance rate was increasing significantly for 2021. Catapult and other state association partners joined forces to argue against this increase.
While NC employers are still rebounding from the impact of Covid on business, the NC Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund is currently at a healthy level, and our position is that this is not the time to raise tax rates for NC employers. NC legislators listened and agreed.
How will this impact you?
DES will be mailing revised tax rate letters to employers to reflect your correct 2021 rate. Stay tuned for more information as we learn more.
What can you do?
Join Catapult in thanking our NC legislators for passing this favorable bill for employers. Catapult and other partners across the state ensured the voice of employers was heard, and our NC legislators responded appropriately. As more information develops, Catapult will update our website.
