EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) Specialist

LS Cable & System U.S.A. Inc. located in Tarboro, N.C. is a leading U.S. manufacturer and supplier of energy wire and cable products serving the Commercial, Industrial, Renewable Energy and Utility markets and has an immediate need for a Team Member.

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Specialist will be responsible for evaluation and administration of Environmental, Health and Safety programs, policies, and initiatives to minimize risks associated with environmental, health & safety issues while ensuring compliance with corporate and legal standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate working conditions to identify unsafe situations or equipment.
Oversee operations, ensuring all workers fully understand safety policies and that they do not take dangerous actions.
Manage the safety policy, making modifications as necessary to keep it relevant with changing production standards.
Investigate accidents to identify what the cause was and what actions will prevent similar accidents in the future.
Organize programs for medical monitoring (hearing conservation program and others) and employee safety, and conduct educational trainings to instruct all workers on proper workplace behavior and activity.
Maintain a database of present materials that are hazardous or toxic to guarantee each is properly handled during use and disposed of later on.
Develop emergency preparedness plans and create employee resources to direct workers in potentially dangerous situations.
Establishes and maintains culture of integrity, credibility and accountability within the Environmental & Safety function.
Focuses efforts towards common goals and processes to achieve improved status. Identifies the need for, designs and builds necessary education and training for all stakeholders.
Conducts all environmental and safety training on a monthly, quarterly and annual schedule.
Assist Director, HR with managing internal and external relationships (e.g., government agency, consultants, insurers, brokerage, and legal) as necessary.
Maintains and publishes safety KPIs weekly.
Stays current regarding applicable safety and environmental regulations, practices, tools, and processes and communicates changes throughout the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field plus equivalent safety working experience in a manufacturing environment.
BCSP certification preferred
Compliance experience in the industry
Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations
CPR/First Aid certification a plus
Attention to detail
