HR Generalist

At Biscuitville Fresh Southern®, The HR (People Excellence) Generalist will have responsibility to support a region in partnership with a People Excellence Manager. The HR Generalist acts as the primary field recruiter and corporate office recruiter. This is a developmental role and will include assigned project work and project management along with acting as a partner to the Area Coaches and Operators and responsibility for the execution of People Excellence processes and talent development activities in our restaurants (field operations). This position reports to the Director of People Excellence and requires a close partnership with restaurant management teams and the assigned People Excellence Manager. This role will contribute to fostering a culture that celebrates both strong teamwork and individual growth, enabling each employee to reach their highest potential. HR Generalist is an enabler of the execution and application of Biscuitville’s human resource processes, policies and practices, and serves as the face of the People Excellence department, building credibility and trust throughout the organization, and will be instrumental in working with operations to foster a culture that celebrates both strong teamwork and individual growth, to enable each employee to reach their highest potential.

Employee Coaching and Development

  • Coaches Managers on how to enhance own performance, measure and improve training results of others, including how to appropriately diagnose problems and create actions that solve them.
  • Frequently communicates and provides feedback to Area Coaches and Operators regarding the success and opportunities for people development within an organization.
  • Executes and assists in the creation of creative and engaging development and learning solutions.
  • Partner with Training and Marketing to create and maintain training guides, product knowledge guides, technology training guides, and other training resources as assigned.

Employee Relations

  • In collaboration with Area Coaches and Operators, advocate for the resolution of employee issues by clarifying concerns, recommending potential solutions, and coaching managers and employees in the application of corrective actions
  • Conduct internal employee investigations to identify appropriate outcomes and document findings
  • Apply understanding of corporate policies, employment law and other regulations when providing guidance
  • Serve as a consultant to leaders and employees for resolution of employee relations issues consistent with policies, procedures, and state and federal laws
  • Escalate HR issues as needed to the PEx Director that meet predefined criteria and using judgment to assess risk and sensitivity level (PEx hotline or email and Navex Global hotline)

Employee Engagement

  • Establish and maintain credible relationships with people leaders through trust, consistency, collaboration, and effective communication
  • Embrace and serve as a role model of Biscuitville’s core values, integrity and accountability, to further advance the culture and focus on employee engagement
  • Partner closely with Area Coaches and Operators to align business objectives with people related initiatives to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity, and retention of employees
  • Spearhead employee engagement and fulfillment efforts by developing leadership capabilities to help strengthen the connection between work, colleagues, and the organization
  • Harness the power of surveys, focus groups, and other qualitative research methods to understand employee behaviors in order to improve employee engagement and retention in close partnership with senior leadership and restaurant management teams
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of reward and recognition program, making recommendations to leadership related to tools and approaches

Human Resources

  • Responsible for executing critical HR processes, including employee relations, compensation, performance management, employee engagement, onboarding, talent development, and workforce planning
  • Provide data-driven insights and analysis for all stages of the employee lifecycle that is used for key decisions throughout the organization (i.e. tracking, monitoring, reporting)
  • Assists with the development and administration of programs, annual reviews, procedures and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company
  • Establishes team measurements that support the accomplishment of the company’s strategic goals
  • Assists with the company-wide process of organizational development that addresses succession planning, superior workforce development, key employee retention, organization design and change management

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Assists with the sourcing and selection of employees for primarily exempt level roles in the field, RSC and DC, working with hiring managers and teams to hire a superior workforce
  • Ensures a positive new employee experience by building a thoughtful and engaging introduction to Biscuitville’s culture and values. Also ensures role clarity and basic know-how is shared early during the employee’s orientation.
  • Participates in workforce planning efforts to determine future staffing needs in support of business growth objectives.

Qualifications:

Do you have the right ingredients? We are looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources or a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to complete the responsibilities/ essential functions of the position is required
  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • PHR and/or SPHR Certification a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of HR experience, with a minimum of one (1) years generalist experience preferred advising front line and mid-level managers on human resource matters including, departmental development, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and recruitment.
  • Experience in a field-facing, fast paced multi-unit (field) organization, preferably restaurant, hospitality, or retail is preferred.
  • A strong service mind-set, collaboration skills, and experience supporting managers across various levels (i.e. mid-level to front-line)
  • Ability to partner with leaders of varying levels to help them accomplish business unit objectives, balancing both internal practices/policies, thinking outside of the box for creative, relevant people-centric solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to help develop teams and build highly engaged work environments
  • Skilled talent acquisition manager with both field and support center recruitment experience.
  • Solutions oriented, motivated to remove barriers and build a best-in-class work environment
  • Proven ability to problem solve in ambiguous situations, effectively prioritizing and using sound judgment when partnering with management and employees
  • Ability to maintain discretion with sensitive and confidential information
  • Knowledge of applicable state (VA/NC) and federal employment, labor and compliance requirements
  • Experience with HR systems and knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Access, PowerPoint, & Word
  • Flexibility to meet travel requirements – up to 60% to restaurants and 40% RSC/home office depending on business needs
  • Experience developing, directing and advising management on the performance of others to achieve results
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to influence/manage change, understanding of strategic HR partnership in driving business results
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to facilitate organizational changes across multiple levels in a matrix organization
  • Proven project management skills and execution ability to deliver results in a timely manner
  • Skillful at establishing personal credibility and trusting relationships by being responsive, keeping commitments, sharing insights on issues being discussed and building relationships
