Non-compete Ban Update
The effective date for the FTC’s non-compete ban of September 4th is fast approaching. Last month, a Pennsylvania court declined to block the rule, but challenges still loom in Florida and Texas. As of now, the Texas case is the one to watch. The TX judge indicated she would issue a decision by August 30th. Late yesterday, there was some preliminary information released from the Florida case. The judge ruled the ban unlawful, however, only in reference to the employer who brought the suit. Stay tuned!

I-9 Expiration Date
On Aug. 2, 2024, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it updated Form I-9, to extend the form’s expiration date from July 31, 2026, to May 31, 2027.
Employers must use the Form I-9 dated “08/01/2023,” which may have an expiration date of either “07/31/2026” or “05/31/2027.” Employers may use either form until its respective expiration date. However, the USCIS’s website will only include Form I-9 with the new “05/31/2027” expiration date for downloading. USCIS encourages employers to use the form with the “05/31/2027” expiration date as soon as possible but no later than July 31, 2026.
Employers can find additional resources by visiting the USCIS’ I-9 Central or joining a free Form I-9 webinar.
