A motor vehicle record is a separate source from a criminal record. Neither one contains the other, which is why fleet employers usually run both.

Continuous MVR monitoring is lawful when it is run properly, and the failure modes are procedural rather than technical.

Authorization must cover ongoing monitoringA one-time pre-hire authorization does not automatically permit continuous monitoring for the life of the employment. Get this right at enrolment.
Adverse action appliesIf you move someone off driving duties based on the report, the FCRA pre-adverse and adverse action process applies.
Write the thresholds down firstDecide in advance which violations trigger which response. Deciding case by case after an alert lands is how inconsistent treatment happens.

What is MVR monitoring?
A way to regularly check a driver’s Motor Vehicle Record for changes such as new tickets or suspensions. Continuous means it happens automatically and close to real time, rather than once a year.
Why monitor continuously instead of annually?
It gives you an early warning. You can take a risky driver off the road the week they lose their license rather than six months later. That closes the gap that creates both the safety risk and the liability.
How often does Catapult check the records?
Our system is always on. We alert you as soon as a state office reports a change. Depending on the state, this can be near real time or within a few days, because reporting speed is set by the state, not by us.
Do you cover all 50 states?
Yes. Full coverage across all 50 U.S. states. No matter where your drivers live or work, we can track their records.
What kind of alerts will I get?
You choose. Alerts are rule-based, so you set which violations, point thresholds, or status changes are worth interrupting someone over and which simply appear in the dashboard.
Does MVR monitoring show criminal records?
No. A motor vehicle record covers driving history only. A non-driving offence will not appear on it. Employers who need both run MVR monitoring alongside continuous criminal monitoring.
Do we need the driver’s permission?
Yes. Pulling and monitoring a motor vehicle record through a consumer reporting agency for employment purposes requires written disclosure and authorization, and the authorization needs to cover ongoing monitoring rather than a single pull.
