Why it matters

The search that makes every other search accurate

A criminal record search is only as good as the names and jurisdictions you point it at. Name and SSN verification is what establishes both.

It finds the names you did not know to searchMaiden names, prior legal names, and aliases associated with the number. A county search run only against the name on the application misses records filed under a former name.
It finds the counties you did not know to searchAddress history shows where the person has actually lived. Since county searches are priced and run per county, this is what tells you which counties are worth paying for.
It flags identity problems earlyA number that does not match the name, was never issued, or is associated with a different identity is worth knowing about before you spend money on deeper searches.
It is the cheapest search in the catalogAt $6.00 for members it costs less than a single county search, and it routinely prevents both wasted searches and missed records.

FAQs

Identity verification questions

What is a name and SSN verification?
It confirms that the Social Security number a candidate provided traces to the name they provided, and it surfaces associated names and address history. It is an identity and scoping search, not a criminal search.
How much does it cost?
$6.00 for Catapult members and $7.00 otherwise, plus the $3.00 applicant fee. It is the least expensive search in the catalog. See full background check pricing.
Is this the same as E-Verify?
No. E-Verify confirms authorization to work in the United States and is tied to Form I-9. See paperless I-9 verification for that. Name and SSN verification is a screening search that establishes identity and address history so the rest of the background check is aimed correctly.
Do I need it if I am already running a criminal check?
It is what makes the criminal check accurate. Without address history you are guessing at which counties to search, and without associated names you may miss records filed under a former name.
Does it confirm work authorization?
No. Work authorization is established through Form I-9 and, where the employer participates, E-Verify. This search does not substitute for either.
