California employment context

HR compliance for California employers

California employers with five or more employees must provide harassment prevention training: two hours for supervisors and one hour for non-supervisory employees, within six months of hire or promotion and every two years after. The requirement is set by Government Code section 12950.1 established by AB 1825 in 2004 and extended to smaller employers by SB 1343 in 2018 and enforced by the California Civil Rights Department. Seasonal and temporary staff must be trained within 30 calendar days of hire or 100 hours worked, whichever comes first, and live interactive webinar training satisfies the law. California employers also generated 4,750 EEOC charge receipts in fiscal year 2025 (EEOC Table E1b, FY 2025, retrieved 2026-07-27), so keep completion records for every employee. Catapult’s live online sessions help San Francisco teams meet the two-year cycle without travel.

Good to know

San Francisco HR training questions

Does SB 1343 apply to small employers in California?

Yes, from 5 employees up. SB 1343 extended harassment prevention training to nearly all California employers, counting part-time, temporary and seasonal workers toward the threshold. A 6-person San Francisco startup carries the same duty as a large enterprise: 2 hours for supervisors, 1 hour for staff.

Yes. Every public session is delivered live online, so a San Francisco team joins the same class as attendees anywhere in the country. Sessions are posted in Eastern Time, and a noon Eastern start is a 9:00 AM seat locally. The only physical classrooms are in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Everything an HR team buys training for: compliance and harassment prevention, manager development, professional skills, technology and certification prep. Course pages show upcoming dates, and any session can be delivered privately for a San Francisco group, online or at your site.

Most do. Courses list HRCI and SHRM credit on their registration pages, and attendees receive completion records for their recertification files. Both credentialing bodies work on 3-year cycles, so a steady course cadence beats a last-minute scramble.

Yes. Private delivery works two ways for San Francisco organizations: a live online session reserved for your team, or facilitators on-site at your location. Content can be tailored to your policies, and scheduling follows your calendar and your time zone.
