California employment context

HR compliance for California employers

California employers with five or more employees must provide harassment prevention training: two hours for supervisors and one hour for non-supervisory employees, within six months of hire or promotion and every two years after. The requirement is set by Government Code section 12950.1 established by AB 1825 in 2004 and extended to smaller employers by SB 1343 in 2018 and enforced by the California Civil Rights Department. Seasonal and temporary staff must be trained within 30 calendar days of hire or 100 hours worked, whichever comes first, and live interactive webinar training satisfies the law. California employers also generated 4,750 EEOC charge receipts in fiscal year 2025 (EEOC Table E1b, FY 2025, retrieved 2026-07-27), so keep completion records for every employee. For San Jose employers, Catapult’s instructor-led online sessions satisfy the mandate and document completion.

Good to know

San Jose HR training questions

How much harassment prevention training do California supervisors need?

Two hours, and it must be interactive. California Government Code section 12950.1 requires 2 hours for anyone with supervisory authority at companies with 5 or more employees, within 6 months of promotion and every 2 years after. Non-supervisory employees need 1 hour on the same cycle.

Yes. Every session is live online and open to anyone in California. Sessions are scheduled on Eastern Time and San Jose is on Pacific Time, 3 hours behind Eastern, so a noon Eastern start is a 9:00 AM seat locally. In-person seats exist only in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina; everywhere else attends virtually.

Leadership and management, harassment prevention and compliance, professional development, technology skills and HR certification prep, delivered live online or privately on-site. The compliance and frontline-management courses map directly to the people issues health care employers around San Jose handle daily.

Nearly all. HRCI and SHRM approval is listed on each course page, and completion certificates document your hours. If your team holds PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credentials, Catapult sessions slot directly into their recertification plans.

Yes. Catapult delivers private training for San Jose organizations two ways: facilitators travel to your site, or run a live online session reserved for your team, scheduled around your calendar and your time zone.
