California HR training questions
Does California require harassment prevention training?
Yes. Under Government Code section 12950.1, employers with five or more employees must provide two hours of harassment prevention training to supervisors and one hour to every other employee, within six months of hire or promotion and every two years after that. Seasonal and temporary staff must be trained within 30 calendar days of hire or 100 hours worked, whichever comes first. The requirement was established by AB 1825 in 2004 and extended to smaller employers by SB 1343 in 2018. The California Civil Rights Department enforces it, and California recorded 4,750 EEOC charge receipts in fiscal year 2025 (EEOC Table E1b, FY 2025, retrieved 2026-07-27).
