Quick answer

What is the difference between leadership training and manager training?

At Catapult, leadership and management training means multi-session development programs and certificate tracks, such as the Team Leader and Advanced Management certificates. Manager development means single-session workshops that build one tactical skill, such as coaching, feedback or difficult conversations.

Which leadership course is right for your managers?

Catapult runs leadership and management courses for managers at every level. Most are open to managers at any level, so the useful question is not seniority but where someone is in their step up. Each description below is the course’s own stated audience.

  1. Thinking about moving into supervision

Individual contributors being considered for promotion to a supervisory role, or interested in one.

  2. Newly leading a team, shift or project

Team leaders, lead workers, group leaders and project leaders, plus brand new supervisors.

  3. Building core leadership skill

High potential employees and people identified in succession planning, plus managers, supervisors and HR professionals.

  4. Working toward a management certificate

All managers, new or experienced, first line through senior.

Prices are per seat: the non-member price first, then the member rate. Every course is also included with a Class Pass.

Programs

Leadership training programs for managers and teams

Catapult’s leadership training programs group these courses by where a manager is in the job. Every program is instructor-led and taught live, so managers practice on real workplace situations instead of watching recorded lectures.

What every program includes

  • Live instructor-led sessions, online or in person at the Charlotte and Raleigh Learning Centers
  • A certificate of completion on the certificate programs
  • HRCI and SHRM recertification credit on most courses (each course page lists its credit)
  • Private delivery for your own team, online or on site
  • Every course included with a Class Pass: $1,199 a year, or $999 for members

Stage 1

New and first-time managers

For people stepping into supervision or leading a team, shift or project for the first time.

Stage 2

Experienced managers

For managers building depth in leading people and running the business side of the role.

Stage 3

Senior and strategic leaders

For leaders planning for the future and making decisions that shape the whole organization.

The Advanced Management certificates are open to all managers, new or experienced, so many teams take them in order. Prices are per seat, non-member first, then the member rate. Training a group? Ask about a private program.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Leadership & Management training

Reviewed by Karol Dixon, Senior HR Advisor, and Breni Malpass, Senior HR Advisor. See Catapult HR Advisors.

Who is Catapult’s leadership & management training for?
Everyone from first-time supervisors to senior leaders, through multi-session development programs and certificate tracks that build managers who actually manage.
How is the training structured?
As cohort-based programs and certificate tracks rather than one-off talks, so skills build over multiple sessions and stick on the job.
Is it offered in person, virtually, or privately?
All three, live in-person in Charlotte and Raleigh, live virtual nationwide, and private programs delivered to your leadership team.
Does it count toward HRCI or SHRM credit?
Most Catapult courses are approved for HRCI and SHRM recertification credit; see each course page for details.
What do leadership training programs include?
At Catapult, each program is a set of live, instructor-led courses matched to a stage of the job: new and first-time managers, experienced managers, and senior leaders. The certificate programs award a certificate of completion, most courses carry HRCI and SHRM recertification credit, and you can attend online, in person in Charlotte and Raleigh, or bring a program to your own team as private training.
What are some good leadership training ideas for managers?
The formats that hold up are the ones managers practice in, not listen to. Catapult builds its programs around real workplace scenarios: coaching conversations, performance documentation, discipline and PIPs, conflict resolution, and the employment law that sits under all of it. Cohort certificate tracks work better than one-off talks because skill builds across sessions and people return to their teams between them.
What is the 70-20-10 rule for leadership?
It is a model from the Center for Creative Leadership describing where managers actually learn: roughly 70 percent from on-the-job experience, 20 percent from other people through coaching and feedback, and 10 percent from formal training. The practical reading is that a course is the smallest slice, so it should be built to feed the other two. That is why Catapult programs run as multi-session cohorts with work applied between sessions.
What leadership skills do Catapult courses build?
Across the Leadership and Management catalog: first-time supervision, performance documentation, difficult conversations, coaching frameworks, discipline and PIPs, conflict resolution, employment law basics, FMLA and ADA fundamentals, the at-will doctrine, strategic HR thinking, executive presence, and cross-functional influence.
