Why it matters here

HR training challenges facing Houston teams

Employment claims are not rare events in Texas: the EEOC logged 9,360 charge receipts from Texas employers in fiscal year 2025 (EEOC Table E1b, FY 2025, retrieved 2026-07-27). Around Houston, 2,171,662 private-sector jobs sit in Harris County (BLS Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, 2025 annual averages, retrieved 2026-07-27), and every one of those workplaces is one mishandled complaint away from joining that count. Trained managers are the difference between a conversation and a charge.

Texas employment context

HR compliance for Texas employers

Texas does not require private employers to provide harassment prevention training; the only Texas training mandate, Labor Code section 21.010, covers state agency employees. What Texas does have is an unusually broad sexual harassment law. Since September 1, 2021, chapter 21 of the Labor Code reaches employers with as few as one employee for sexual harassment claims, holds them to an “immediate and appropriate corrective action” standard, and gives workers 300 days to file, up from 180 for other claims. The Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division enforces it alongside the EEOC, which logged 9,360 Texas charge receipts in fiscal year 2025 (EEOC Table E1b, FY 2025, retrieved 2026-07-27), the most of any state. Documented manager training is the practical way to make the corrective-action standard real. Catapult trains Houston managers on exactly these obligations, live online, with the documentation to match.

Local industries

Training for Houston’s key industries

Harris County’s private employment runs on Health Care (288,011 jobs), Hospitality and Food Service (226,870), Professional Services (217,602) and Retail (210,417) (BLS Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, 2025 annual averages, retrieved 2026-07-27). Each brings its own HR pressure points, and our courses are built around them.

Hospitality & Food Service

Average pay $29,609 in Harris County (BLS QCEW, 2025). Tipped pay, late hours and guest pressure produce the complaints that end up in charges.

Professional Services

Average pay $137,235 in Harris County (BLS QCEW, 2025). Utilization pressure makes firms skip supervisor training; one claim erases the savings.

Retail

Average pay $44,568 in Harris County (BLS QCEW, 2025). Young, high-turnover crews reward stores whose managers coach instead of replace.

Health Care

Average pay $71,774 in Harris County (BLS QCEW, 2025). Credential renewals, mandatory reporting and burnout make every charge nurse a people manager.

Good to know

Houston HR training questions

Is harassment prevention training required in Texas?

No. Texas mandates no harassment training for private employers. But since September 1, 2021, Texas sexual harassment law covers employers with as few as one employee and requires immediate and appropriate corrective action. Documented manager training is how Houston employers show a court that standard was met.

Yes, Houston teams attend every course live online. There is no travel: sessions stream to your desk and the calendar runs year-round. Sessions are posted in Eastern Time, so a noon Eastern start is an 11:00 AM seat locally. If you prefer a classroom, the in-person rooms are in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Compliance, harassment prevention, leadership and frontline management, professional skills, software, and HRCI and SHRM certification prep. Houston teams most often start with the manager fundamentals, then build a cadence around the compliance calendar. Any course can also run privately for your organization.

Most do. Courses list HRCI and SHRM credit on their registration pages, and attendees receive completion records for their recertification files. Both credentialing bodies work on 3-year cycles, so a steady course cadence beats a last-minute scramble.

Yes, and it is often the better fit for cohorts of 10 or more. Catapult runs private sessions for Houston employers live online or on-site, scheduled around shifts and time zones, with the same HRCI and SHRM credit and completion records.
